Kapil Sahnan is an experienced colorectal surgeon based in London. He works at St Mark’s Hospital, the UK’s National Bowel Hospital, and has a tertiary referral practice in proctology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). He co-leads the IBD robotic programme and hosts many international trainees and visitors annually.

Kapil completed his undergraduate and postgraduate training at Imperial College London and has trained in Oxford and Bristol. He also completed the prestigious European Society of Coloproctology fellowship in robotic colorectal cancer surgery in Barcelona.
He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London, with experience in supervising PhD students and developing and delivering surgical education programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Currently, Kapil serves on the European Society of Coloproctology education committee, where he leads the international fellowship programme for pelvic floor conditions (prolapse, bowel disturbances, faecal incontinence) and leads the annual training village, focusing on minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and robotic surgery) and abdominal wall reconstructions (e.g., hernias).
He teaches on the ACPGBI’s national proctology roadshow, covering anal fistula, laser surgery, anal fissures, haemorrhoids (piles), pruritus ani (a persistently itchy bottom), and anal lesions (skin tags and AIN).
Kapil has built an international reputation and is recognised as a global key opinion leader. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications and is currently supervising two PhD students, with theses on ileoanal pouch surgery and the role of artificial intelligence in robotic surgery.
