Miss Maitra qualified from Calcutta University in 1993. She did her specialist training in the North West Thames region of London primarily at St Mary’s Hospital, London where she had the privilege of training with some eminent doctors in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has been a key member in setting up the new Gynaecology Direct Referral unit at Northwick Park Hospital where women with early pregnancy problems, emergency gynaecology problems i.e. pelvic pain and very heavy menstrual bleeding would be able to walk in and have their problems sorted with surgery if necessary and be discharged home as soon as possible thereby providing a better patient experience.
Miss Maitra’s interest outside medicine include hill walking, listening to Indian and Western classical music, cooking, craft and needlework. She is specially interested in cooking Indian, Chinese and Thai cuisines for friends and family. Most of her free time is now spent with her child and she loves watching him grow up. She is a very good communicator with an excellent knowledge of English, Hindi, Bengali and Urdu.
