Professional and Personal profile

I am a clinician with a major interest in echocardiography. I have published over 200 original papers in this field. My particular interest is in heart failure, coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndrome. I have pioneered the clinical development of myocardial contrast echocardiography which is a unique way for assessing myocardial perfusion by Echocardiography leading to safe and early detection of coronary artery disease including assessment of established coronary artery disease and myocardial viability. Using this technique I have popularised Echocardiography. I am regarded as a world expert in this field. I have also published on carotid ultrasound imaging for risk stratification.

I have led several large multicentre trials involving USA and Europe. I have been awarded the 'Edler Lecture' by the University of Lund for my pioneering work in echocardiography. I am in various task force committees in the American Society of Echocardiography and European Society of Echocardiography. I led the writing group on behalf of both British Society of Echocardiography and European Association of Echocardiography for recommendation papers on Stress Echocardiography and Contrast Echocardiography respectively. I am the Chairman for North West London Cardiac Imaging group. I am on the editorial board of the European Journal of Echocardiography.
