Professional and Personal profile

Mr Isla is a purely laparoscopic upper GI surgeon.  For the last 15 years during his appointments at Ealing and Imperial Hospitals and currently at North West London Hospitals NHS Trust he has developed a very specialised, and maybe unique practice in the upper GI field.

He has one of the largest experience in laparoscopic cholecystectomy in west London and has been performing laparoscopic antireflux surgery since 1998 and laparoscopic hernias since 2000.  He set up the first laparoscopic adrenalectomy practice in West London at the Hammersmith Hospital.  His interest in laparoscopic endocrine surgery  produced the largest experience in the UK  with the laparoscopic management of pancreatic insulinom as  having a unique experience that has been published in the British Journal of Surgery.

He was one of the three upper GI surgeons who set-up the West London Upper GI Cancer Centre.

Mr Isla was one of the  founders of the Imperial  Weight management centre at Charing Cross

Mr Isla also has a very keen interest in the laparoscopic management of surgical emergencies and he is one of the co-authors of the guidelines of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons (EAES) for this.
