Miss Vaizey was educated at Cape Town University and then trained in General and Trauma Surgery up to Consultant level in Johannesburg. Back in England Miss Vaizey spent two and a half years in a colorectal fellowship and then two and a half years in full time colorectal research at St Mark's Hospital. The resulting work gained her an MD and the John of Ardenne medal at the Royal Society of Medicine, London.

She then took up a Consultant post at University College Hospital and The Middlesex Hospital in central London for the following five years.

In 2003 she took up a new post as Consultant Surgeon at St Mark's Hospital.  Currently she is also Chair of Surgery, Director of the Physiology Unit, Lead Surgeon for incontinence and pelvic floor disorders, Lead Surgeon for intestinal failure and the Lennard Jones Unit and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College.

Her clinical work covers the spectrum of colorectal and anal surgery with particular interests in Crohn's disease, intestinal complications, anal diseases and incontinence.

Miss Vaizey is happy to see elective colorectal cases privately by appointment and to admit emergency colorectal and general surgical cases.
