Professional and Personal profile

Dr Siwan Thomas-Gibson is gastroenterologist with particular expertise in endoscopy. Her specialist interests include the prevention, diagnosis and management of intestinal (bowel) diseases utilising endoscopy and the management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease. She has particular expertise in endoscopic screening and surveillance of those at increased risk of bowel cancer (asymptomatic screening, those with a strong family history, a personal history of polyps, polyposis syndromes and longstanding colitis).

She was appointed to St Mark’s and Northwick Park in 2006 and is now the Clinical Lead for Endoscopy and also the Deputy Director of Bowel Cancer Screening at the Wolfson unit. The Wolfson Unit for Endoscopy is a JAG accredited (quality assured) unit and the only unit in the UK designated as an ‘OMED’ World Centre of Excellence in Endoscopy Training and Research. Dr Thomas-Gibson is one of five accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopists at St Mark’s. She has an excellent local and national reputation for driving quality standards in endoscopy for patients through improving training and service delivery in all units. She is committed to providing a very high quality service to all patients.

Consultations are 45 minutes for all new patients and at least 30 minutes for follow up appointments allowing for a full assessment and medical review. Endoscopic procedures (colonoscopy, gastroscopy, capsule endoscopy) are carried out in the dedicated private endoscopy suite in the Wolfson unit which is equipped as a state of the art facility and where a first class team of specialist nurses will help ensure an excellent service is provided. She works within a specialist multi-disciplinary team and so can arrange forward referrals to appropriate specialists where necessary without delay.
