Professional and Personal profile

Dr Shahir Hamdulay studied medicine at the Royal Free Hospital and graduated in 1999. He completed postgraduate medical training in Hammersmith & University College London hospitals and commenced specialist training in Rheumatology & General Internal Medicine in 2003, rotating through Hammersmith, St. Mary’s and Northwick Park Hospitals.

During specialist training he completed a British Heart Foundation clinical research fellowship researching the vascular effects of drug therapy in the context of inflammatory diseases such as vasculitis, SLE and the connective tissue diseases. This led to the award of Ph.D by Imperial College London and he has subsequently won prizes from the British Society of Rheumatology and Royal Society of Medicine for this research.

Shahir Hamdulay has been a Consultant in General Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at Northwick Park Hospital since February 2012 and is clinical lead for emergency medicine ambulatory care. He treats all aspects of rheumatological disease including rheumatoid, gout and osteoporosis, but has a specific clinical interest in SLE, vasculitis and the inflammatory connective tissue diseases. He has an active role in clinical research and teaches medicine at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.
